C1: Stupid question of the day - 1959 trunk

I guess I should have spent more time looking in Corvette trunks. I can see from pictures in books that the jack assembly sits on top of the mat, but the mat that came with my car will not fit under/around the jack holder on the drivers side.

I assume the mat is a repro. It has "59" in the upper left corner, and "U.S." the upper right. The white numbering on the bottom doesn't correspond to anything in my reference books.

Is the mat wrong? Is the jack holder wrong? Or am I just doing something wrong?

Another question I have is, would it be correct to have a '58 mat in a an early '59 car? Some parts seem to overlap the years.

    Thanks.

    -Dave

p.s. I know my trunk is too shiny. I like it that way.

Don't know about the jack handle But any early Corvette like your 59 will have late 58 parts installed till GM ran out of them or it worked on the next year Corvette.

Dave: That is not the mat that I saw in your car many years ago. Mark

          Dave,

I have the same problem in my (Dec 18th 58) car with a repo mat. I believed it to be the difference in the mat. I bought my 59 in Nov. 61 and have not changed the location of the handle's clip. What you have told me with your post is that my car's handle is positioned like yours. I believe that my handle was on top of the old mat but did not notice it until I put a repo mat in.

I know this does not help your problem but I hope I gave you a little bit of information.

I just checked a 1960 Vette in the neighborhood and it has a black mat #3777513 that fits perfectly. The left side is notched differently. I am convinced that the jack holder in my car is in the correct spot. I will just have to get a proper mat somewhere. Maybe the latest repro mats are better now.
