C3-'71 Coupe -Extra Storage Bag

In addition to the T-top storage bags, I have another bag.

It is 30 inches X 13 inches, with a 4 X 13 inch flap, with a snap in the flap center.

What is it for?

Sounds like a bag for the rear window.

That's what I thought, Warren...until I measured my rear window. Yep, I can't remember anything anymore, so that answer just jumped out at me...I measured it. The rear window is about 40 inches long. Anyway, an expert can straighten me out, but I don't think that bag came with the car, or any dealer supplied accessories.

(The following paragraph has been deleted before posting as frivilous speculation on purpose of aforesaid bag that is unbecoming of a serious student of Corvette restoration and NCRS member in good standing. )

I also first thought that it was for the rear window, but it is much too short.

I believe that the extra bag came with the car. The extra bag is exactly the same material, inside and out as the T-Top bags.

This is a one owner, unrestored and unmolested car, that has every thing with it that came with the car from the dealer. POP, dealer invoice, window sticker, etc. And nothing extra, no aftermarket stuff. I can't find anything non-factory about the car, except the dealer added luggage rack.

The "extra" bag was folded, and in the storage compartment with the T-Top bags.

It would take two bags this size to store the rear window in.

Maybe I'm missing the second bag, and they really are for rear window storage.

There is no mention in the 70-72 TIM&JG of any storage bags except the T-top bags. If you take the car for judging, leave the bag at home...you will incur no penalty for not having it there.

You might examine the interior of the bag for any stamps, dates, etc...GM date stamped virtually everything put on a Corvette. Many T-top bags won't have dates because they have faded away, or been washed away, but many original T-top bags still have dates and the letters for the manufacturer. In the same manner, this bag would likely have been stamped with the date of manufacture.

Your 71 coupe should have a storage tray for the rear window, and a strap harness to secure the T-tops to the rear compartment floor.
