    C2 Alternator Main Wire Boot

I found an original main wire rubber boot at Carlisle to replace my repro boot. Any ideas on how to remove the old one and install the new without cutting the terminal end from the wire, slipping the new boot over and installing a new terminal end? Terminal appears to be too big to fit over the rubber boot end without cutting the wire.

    Regards,
    Dave K.

Get the new one warm-set it in the sun or in nice warm water, lubricate it and it will stretch over the terminal.

        Speaking of Boots (Compare)

The one on the left satisifies the '65 TM & JG requirement that there be "a raised cross on the back". Yet I believe only the one to the right is acceptable for that period.

You are correct, the one on the right is "of the period"

The one on the right resembles the one I have on my 67, is that the correct boot for a 67?

Dave, Here is cheater I pulled on putting an original boot on my 63 repro wiring harness. I have some printing press ink roller cleaner. The stuff is lethal if you breath it. Anyhow if you soak a small rubber part in it the thing swells up major league. I put my original boot in a small baby food jar and filled it up with the cleaner and came back about 20 minutes later and the think swelled up big time. Slipped it onto the harness and later it shrunk back to original size. Have used this chemical to soften up old rubber-no comments please. and you can't believe the result. Got it from an NCRS member in Ohio that has a'57 FI car. Ed Swannick. Sorry Ed for misspelling your last name. If you are not in a hurry you and I can do it together at your house. Won't be at the next meeting. Going to tea party. John

The one on the right also resembles what is on my 1970, I think.

Dave, AS Clupper said one of right real deal. See them on ebay for major bucks. Last one had a big tear in it and still went for big $$$.
Could have them reproes but the mold is expensive. POrobably should have at least a two cavity mold. Also probably would neve break even. Watch your capacitor wire when installing the boot. John

Corvette Central sells an alternator boot with the correct cross. I'm not sure it's 100% correct, but it sure looks pretty close to me. I only paid $11 for this one. It's not torn, but then again I haven't tried to install it yet.
