    Cleaning Aluminum Valve Covers

How do you clean them and what do you use on them? Does anyone sell a cleaning tool to get into the ribs? These are for a LT1. Has anyone bought a set lately, I just received a set from a GM dealer and there are cracks around the Vent holes [He said that is the way they come now] Is this true? Thanks For any help Bob

    Cracks in Aluminum Valve Covers

    Bob,

I have a set of NOS GM mid-year aluminum valve covers and there are what look like hairline partial-thickness cracks at a number of places where the metal perhaps cooled at a different rate from the surroudning metal during the casting process. I don't see similar cracks on my original '66 valve covers, so something has gottten worse over time with the casting process.
