    Trip odometer cable help

    Hello.
I had the dash out of my 1970 for a while and upon re-assembly, I am a bit perplexed as to the routing of the trip meter cable. presently it seems to strike the bolt that fastens the left support rods to the column support. Is the trip cable suppose to pass over the lower rod than down? or maybe not pass over either rod?
your help will be much appreciated.
    Bob

    Re: Trip odometer cable help

Our 70s have a trip odometer??!!

The only details for this cable routing is shown in the AIM on UPC12, page A3. The rod/bolt you describe is not shown. I don't know if this will help, but the cable is shown going OVER the IP electrical harness which is clipped to the left, lower side of the speedometer. It should be a pretty much straight drop down from there, shouldn't it?

      Chuck,
Thanks much for stepping up to the plate.
I have that drawing, UPC 12, B3 in my book. Yes, it does show the shaft assembly, as the parts list calls it, passing over the main harness. The support rods and bolt I mentioned, are shown on UPC 1, A9 view B.
As I crawl under the dash to look up, I see the shaft assembly directly hitting the bolt, part number 8, and making a hard 90 degree bend, thus pinching the shaft assembly, and not sallowing it to reset the trip meter.

The crazy thing is that I've installed this dash several times over the years I've had the car, and never once had a problem before now. Maybe if I neglect the problem for awhile, I'll remember what to do right next time.

      Thanks again,
      Bob
