    65 non-tele steering column

    does anyone know what the hole is for on rear of column housing - (upper housing - where turn signal switch is) - i see a hole with scored marks for something - i am not sure if i am missing something???

    Are you looking at the hole that the clip that retains the cover over the wiring snaps into? I'm not really certain of your description. If you are talking about the bowl that actually holds the switch, The '63 used a setscrew-wedge system to hold the bowl in place, but that was eliminated in '64 with the use of a redesigned switch and retention system.

      thats exactly what im talking about - do i then have a 63 bowl or did they continue to use the same bowl for 65

        bill - you are on the money - i looked at a 63 column breakdown and saw the wedge & screw that you are talking about- thanks for the quick response - it had me going - i just finished restoring my column and teak wheel??

          It appears that 63 was by itself, and 64-66 interchange. That makes sense since the housing has to change to move the switch into the upper housing instead of down the column as in '63. Are you sure you have the proper outer jacket with the three tooth latching system to hold the bowl onto the outer jacket?

            it has locking ring with the 3 screws and the notched tube
