C1 Trunk mat follow up and a call for information

As a follow up to this previous thread https://www.ncrs.org/forum/tech.cgi/...46977&expand/1 I took this picture of a correct black mat from a 1960 car placed on top of the repro mat from my car. You will see that the "ears" are smaller on the black one which leaves space for the jack holder.

Tony's '58, my '59 and this '60 all have the jack holder in same spot. I'm assuming most other cars of these years are in same spot also. The curious thing is that I talked with a guy who makes the repro mats (and supplies them to some of the bigger vendors we all use) and I seem to be the first person who has noticed or mentioned the difference. He told me he'd be happy to make a different version of the mat if I supplied a paper sheet cutout with the proper dimensions. I'm considering doing this, but I'd sure like to hear from others first.

With the tons of cars going through Flight Judging, I find it hard to believe this subject hasn't come up before. Shouldn't all these cars have the jack assemblies on top of the mat. Not everyone can have an original mat or there would be no market for the reproductions.

So C1 owners (at least 58-60), speak up please. What do your trunks look like? Post some pictures. Tell me what is going on. I must be missing something.

    -Dave

Doesn't look like much of a problem to trim to fit, but the repro should be correct. But then, what repro is correct. I haven't seen any lately.

Yes, it could be cut easily, but then you'd be left with no outer edge in that spot. Would look terrible. A correct mat should have that smooth uniform edge all the way around.

From your pic and description it looked like the red part that shows was just too long. From what you say now, the mat is made entirely wrong in that area. The grooved part would also be too large. Definitely a problem!
