    Replacement fuel gauge for 67

It looks like I need to replace my 67 fuel gauge. I placed an order with Paragon for a new one but got a call from Bill who tells me that Paragon won't accept a return on it (I haven't even received it yet!). Bill asked me if I still wanted it. It made me a little suspicious. If Paragon won't stand behind it, why should I buy it?

Can someone give me a good recommendation where to buy a good fuel gauge for my 67? Are there problems with the new ones being sold now?

    Thanks.

    Tony,

I got one from Corvette Central and had no problem with it. Didn't know Paragon sold any repro gauges.

      Tony------

A fuel gauge is an electrical part. Electrical parts are very often ruined by folks during their quest to "get to the bottom of a problem". In other words, they perfrom "troubleshooting" be successive installation of various new components of a system and figure that when they "find the right one" everything will be ok. In the process, though, they may ruin some of these installed parts. Since they don't "fix the problem", they figure that there was nothing wrong with the part they replaced and they then want to return the new part they purchased.

As a result of the above, many vendors have a no-return policy on electrical parts. It's a VERY GOOD policy, too. As a customer, I do not want ANY electrical part that someone else has installed, removed, and returned. So, vendors that do not accept returns on electrical parts are exactly the kind of vendors I want to do business with. In fact, I do not want to do business, AT ALL, with a vendor that does accept returns on electrical parts. Electrical troubleshooting is difficult enough as it is. I don't want to complicate it any more by using electrical parts that have been "compromised" and are of unknown condition. I accept the fact that electrical parts are not returnable and I would never attempt to return one.

In the old days, GM had a very good way to control this. Most electrical parts were packaged in a pull-string cardboard/metal box. If you "pulled the string", the part was yours. Period. That was a VERY GOOD system; I wish it was still in use today. Dr. Rebuild has a "version" of it in use today. I support this 100%.

So, what about "open box" electrical parts on eBay? All I can say is, bid with caution.

Tony, I think that you will find the "no return" policy is pretty universal among the vendors. Joe gave a very good description of the reasons.

            Tony,

I received your e-mail and a NEW replacement gauge will be sent to you on Monday via UPS ground. MY replacement policy is 100% good! Sorry, I didn't get your e-mail until this AM (Saturday).

Your satisfaction with the parts I sell is my priority. If you have any more questions or problems please contact me directly.

            Thanks,

            JR
