    1966 (?) Keys

    Hi,

I've got a set of two octagonal Briggs and Stratton keys. I think they came from a 1968 Buick Electra 225 that used to be in the family 15 years ago, but I want to be sure they're not 66 Corvette keys. We're looking for our set of those, and I think one of the other guys has them.

The set I have now, one has a "C" and the other has a "D" stamped on them. The 1966 JG does not mention any specifics about codes on the keys, so I thought I'd check here and see if anyone knew which of the two cars these might match.

    Thanks,

    Re: 1966 (?) Keys

I am not an expert but I overheard a conversation today during at my local chapter's judging school that after countless decades, GM changed the key blanks for all of its cars sometime around 67. I don't know if this coincided with the change of key shape we've seen with Corvette keys. If you have a known earlier key handy, this may be useful for comparative purposes. Peter Lindahl can probably offer more guidance on this.

Patrick - The "C" & "D" stamped keys will indeed work in a 1968 GM vehicle and they should not go into the lock keyways on your 66 unless someone has changed or modified the lock keyways. 1966 and earlier GM octagon and round head keys did not have any letters stamped on the key shaft. Pete

        Thanks Pete.

I figured that they were from the 68 Buick, but had to be sure.
That Buick went to the junkyard 15 years ago, but the keys are still here, as is the running gear. I never did find a 68-72 Skylark convertible to drop the 430 into.

Now I have to get the key codes off from the 66 locks and send you a note and a check....
