    1968 Decal/Label Question

Re: 1968 Jack storage compartment door
I have two spares of the above doors and the labels differ on each door. I have new labels to afix to my new doors and can't remember what goes where.
Both have the round tire pressure label in the upper left portion of the door (facing the door when open); however, the jacking instructions and large red Limited Slip Differential label differ on the two spare doors I have.
One has the Jacking instructions on the lower left and the other has it on the lower right.
What is the correct positioning of the Jacking Instructions and Limited Slip Diff labels for a small block 1968 L79?
    Thank you in advance,
    Kurt # 26406

    Re: 1968 Decal/Label Question

Original labels, original location on my 68. Top left of the raised door is the tire pressure. Bottom left is the limited slip/posi-traction label. Top right is the jacking instructions. The limited slip label had a date of July 22, 1958 and the jacking label is 1967.
New question, my middle compartment/glove box door is plastic, what is yours?

      Re: 1968 Decal/Label Question

      Jim,
My middle compartment door, like all my doors, is made of what appears to be pressed wood or compressed composite that feels like wood (may be fiberboard). I thought I read somewhere over the years, that the plastic doors came later.
Mine is a May 10, 1968 build date and I have the original doors.
My doors also did not have the round finger loops whihc many later style doors had nor do I have the metal lift loops. Sort of a pain to open the battery door as it sticks slightly but the others open with just the pressure from the spring loaded hinge.
Your description of the lables brings the variations to FOUR different setups.
Reba Whittington e-mailed me that there appears to be no consistent standard for mounting these labels and therefore the judges do not judge their positioning on the door.

I believe that the workers in St. Louis used OTD guidelines. ON THE DOOR. There is absolutely no pattern.

          Re: 1968 Decal/Label Question

Kurt my 68 was earlier built than yours, FEB 68, so 68's changed from the plastic door sometime between FEB and MAY.
My 68 depends on the springs to open the compartment doors, the loops to pick up the doors came on my 70 that does not have the spring loaded doors. The doors or my 70 are easier to open compared to how the doors on my 68 stick like yours
