    265 V8 rear main seal

I'm trying to remove a rear main rope seal and replace it with a more modern rubber seal. Engine is out of car on a stand, I have the rear main cap off and have tried pulling at the seal as well as inserting a screw and trying to pull it out. I have also tried pushing it out by using a flexible, but stiff plastic tube. No luck.

Short of yanking all the bearing caps and rods, does anybody have a solution?

    Thanks,

    Mike

Try turning the crank while pulling or pushing on the seal. Wouldn't hurt to loosen up the next two mains either

Try a flat-end brass punch to break it loose, then pull it out with pliers once you have enough end exposed to grab onto.

Re: 265 V8 rear main seal, DONE!

Combo of both techiniques and it is OUT! Thanks! The correct pan is nopw also in place and next step is intake manifold.
