Alright, so the power steering control valve was leaking on my 1964 coup so I thought I would buy the rebuild kit from Corvette Central and fix the problem... Well, I rebuilt it a few weeks ago and it worked great! No more leaks and my power steering was a smooth as could be since I also rebuilt the cylinder. Well, that lasted all of 2 days until power steering fluid came flowing out the control valve by the "boot" that covers the "shaft/bolt" that goes to the steering linkage. I followed the instructions that came with the rebuild kit and I followed the pictures and text in my 63 manual. So what Did I do wrong? Well, I took it a part again last week and refollowed the directions because I figured I had put it together wrong. But I couldn't find anything that I had done wrong, so I put it back together and tried it again. Same thing happened--drove nice for 2 days then dumped all the ps fluid through that boot whenever I would turn.
So, is there a trick to this thing that the book doesn't show? It's nearing the end of the summer and I want to drive my car for the last 30 days that I have. Is there a quick fix or should I just spend the $200 to get a new control valve. Also, where is the best place to get one? Ebay had them for about $200 with shipping and Corvette Central doens't even sell them--just offers a rebuild for $100.
Thanks for the help-
