    72 A/C line?

I'm looking at an A/C line on my 72. It looks like a flexible rubber line with crimped on metal ends, similar to the lines coming off the back of the compressor. The line runs from the expansion valve to the receiver/dryer. It is identified in the AIM as part number 3998440.

Is this a flexible line? If so, where do I get a replacement? I want to replace all of the flexible lines on my 72 so I can get the A/C working.

Ed, if my memory serves me correctly, this line was never serviced as an assembly, or if it was it was discontinued many moons ago. You can reuse your old ends if originality is an issue. Go to any auto parts store that fabricated AC lines and have them make you one.

Ed before you install a new line to the expansion valve take a look at the picture of the expansion valve in your service manual. You will see the screen filter inside the expansion valve connection where the rubber line from the condensor to the expansion valve connects. If you find trash in the screen this can prevent flow into the valve. The trash could be desiccant from a ruptured dryer. If their is a presence of desiccant you will need to flush the condensor from the dryer connection to the expansion valve. An easy out gently inserted and twisted by hand will help retrieve the filter screen. It is not very large and is easily blocked by trash.
