    c-1 1958 2x4 intake carb set up

I have a 58 Vette with what appears to be a 1972 307 engine. According to the book it came with a 2 barrel carb and had 130HP. I don't know if the engine had been modified over the years, it does have a 4 barrel and seems reasonably peppy.
Question, I am considering buying a correct 2X4 set up for the car mostly for the looks but also for a little more power, will the 58 intake bolt right onto the 307 without any modifications. Will the 2X4 set up be too much for the 307 engine. Any thoughts would appreciated.

Sorry for the first goof... The 307 is probably one of the wimpier small blocks built, a 2x4 set up might be too much. You'd need to look at a cam as well, the heads might not breathe enough either.

I'd look to replace the block and build that motor to handle the dual 4 barrels. Just my opinion.

307 responds pretty well to hot rodding. Not sure about the head flow. I had one in a T-bucket years ago and it would FLY. Of course the whole car only weighted 1500 pounds. Stick the 2X4 on and see how it does. The 245hp 283 isn't exactly a ball of fire.

          Thanks

It will be a 100% direct bolt-on! The 307 was a low compression engine with bigger combustion chambers than the 283 heads, BUT, the valves in the 307 heads and the valves in the 283 heads are the same size (1.72/1.5).
Also, a 307 is simply a stroked 283. BOTH the 307 and 283 have a 3.875 (3 7/8) bore. The stroke of the 283 is 3.0in and the 307 has a 3.25 stroke. The 283s ranged from lo-perf engines with a 2bl carb and stock cam all the way up to a 315hp hi-perf version with a solid lifter cam and FI. The 307 ONLY came in a lo-perf 2bl version 68-73. So, a 307 will essentially respond to modifications in about the same manner as a 283, probably better with the longer stroke which will increase low end torque.
