    8" wheel

Trying to help my brother in law with a question. Was there any chevy steel wheels 15" that were 8" wide that were not ralley wheels? What car did they come on? He is trying to use a stock look by using hubcaps (it is on a 69 11,000 mile 396 camaro) wants to keep bigger tires. Mid year wheels were all 15 x 6 that used hubcaps.

    Thanks

    Keith

    Keith----

There were no non-rally type 15 X 8 wheels ever used for any Chevrolet or other GM car that would fit a Chevrolet.

Mid 70's Chevrolet Monte Carlo Landau used a 15"X 8" wheel from the factory, but I doubt it would look good on a Camaro. The wheel was "faced" with some kind of rubber to form a series of rectangular slots, or holes for design and used a 1" wide, flat trim ring along with a spin on center cap.

Chances are that the OE wheelcovers can be mounted to 8" Ralley wheels, if wheelcovers are what he has.

Yes, if he uses full wheel covers, most can be mounted on a rally wheel with no problem, at all. However, if he uses the "hub cap" style wheel covers, which I think is what the intention is, the rally wheel feature will remain quite prominent.

Are you sure it was 15 X 8? I can't find any wheel of this size that was ever used for a Monte Carlo or Chevelle. 15 X 7 is the largest wheel size that I can find that was used for Monte Carlo from the introduction of that model through the end of its RWD incarnation.

I always thought it was Joe.
The wheel was only available with the upgraded Landau trim option. I owned a 76 with these wheels.
Car came from the factory with GR70-15 radial tires if that halps you at all.

                  George-----

The only "special wheel" I can find that was used for 1976 Monte Carlos was identified as "with ZJ7". "ZJ7" was a special wheel code that was likley part of the "Landau Package" you described. These were a 15 X 7 wheel that was coded "FW".

The tire size GR-70-15 would be fully approved for use on a 7" wide wheel so that size would not imply, at all, that an 8" wide wheel was used. With only 1 exception that I know of, 7" was the widest wheel used for pre-1980 Chevrolet cars. The only exception was Corvette which used the 8" wide wheel from 1969-82.
