    BB half shafts

    Working on a '66 427 car, how do you recreate the shotpeen appearence of the half shafts? Can it be done, if so how? If it can't be done, what do the judges want to see or what will pass judging?

      VERY simple. Have the half shafts shot peened with fine steel shot. There are many places that can do this.

      In fact, it's quite easy to "re-create" the big block half shaft finish. On the other hand, it's VERY difficult to re-create the natural, extruded steel finish seen on small block half shafts (the same as big block shafts before shot-peening).

          Is this something that I coulb put thru my sandblaster? If not where would I be able to get this done?

                  Bead blasting will not reproduce the original shot-peened finish. Shot peening is usually not too difficult to find. As Patrick mentioned, many machine shops have the capability. Your regular machine shop will probably either have the capability or know what shop in the area does.

                  Besides reproducing the original finish, it will also strengthen the driveshaft. That's the reason that it was done in the first place.
