Is there a current flywheel available from Chevrolet to replace a stock 1966 Corvette 427 / 390 hp flywheel? Has anyone used GM flywheel P/N 03991469 in a 1966- 427 Corvette? Also, how does a person determine if a flywheel can be resufaced vice needing replacement? Appreciate any information.

GM #3991469 will SERVICE your application perfectly. It's virtually identical to the original flywheel.
Generally, if a flywheel can be resurfaced with a minimal "cut", it is ok for further use. It just depends how much has to be removed and, also, how much has been previously removed.
My recommendation is always to replace the flywheel when it gets to the point that resurfacing is necessary. Partly, that's because a Corvette has a clutch system that usually needs to have original geometry to work correctly. When a flywheel is surfaced, the geometry of the system is changed ever-so-slightly but sometimes enough to cause clutch adjustment problems thereafter.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Very much appreciate the responses. Thank you. I am using a new stock GM disc and pressure plate in my rebuild. I am told to consider using a Centerforce "self aligning" throw out bearing P/N N1716 in place of the stock GM unit. Sounds like a good idea, but has anyone tried this? My experience in the past tells me to stick with GM to avoid surprises. Thanks again.- Top

Hi Rich I use on all my cars is what I call the L88 396 clutch its 10 1/2 stock type it fits any fly wheel has a great feel not stiff its nice my wife loves it you drive one of these and like us you will use nothing else. Phil 8063- Top

I believe that the current GM clutch release bearing, GM #15680264, is what is referred to as a "self-aligning" design. This is the only bearing which GM currently offers for 56-81 Corvettes.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
