For my 68 Coupe, I need 8 of the bevel head phillips screws for the T-Top strap hold down brackets. These take 2 chrome, fine thread screws each X 4 for a total of 8 screws.
Anyone know where I can find some good originals or exact reproductions?
I can't vouch for the correctness of these screws, but on page 122 of Dr.Rebuild catalogue, he lists part number 1281028 as 68-82 hanger 6 piece screw set.
The Doc's illustration is for the single center bulkhead loop strap (after 70), and that's why his set has six screws. If you need eight screws, you'll need two sets. The screw set does not include the loops themselves.
To be exactly correct, you are also going to need the little bushing spacers that go under the loop ends (apparently not in Doc's set). Originally these were PN 3781287, but you'll never find them now. You can try making your own out of steel tubing. Since they are buried in the carpet and pad, exact configuration is probably not critical. For your reference, mine are 0.31"OD X 0.19"ID X 0.22" long.
No, I haven't ordered those particular screws from Dr. Rebuild, but most of the time their stuff will be the closest on the market. There's not too many variables to play with in #10, cross-recess, countersinking, chrome-plated machine screws, so I'm pretty sure if they're not exactly the same, they won't be far off.
Unfortunately, without a report from another knowledgeable restorer, the only way to be 100 percent sure of ANY RESTORATION PART (even GM NOS) is to order it and compare it side by side with your original.
