    6 month rule

How would the 6 month rule apply for a car built during a strike? I have an early 65 (November) Coupe. From articles I have read there was a strike in October 1964. Do the judges then give 7 months due to this? Would the 6 month rule for a Holley carb be.... 6 months from carb born to engine assembly date, or carb born to car build date?

Example (Holley date 431) (engine assembly 9-25-64) Oct. Strike (car build Nov 4)

    Thanks

    Re: 6 month rule

Carb born to car assembly date, as the carb was installed at the assy plant. The "6 month" rule was put in to GENEROUSLY allow for minor plant disruptions, poor inventory controls, and the like. As the carb is not installed in Flint, the engine date would have no bearing.

Least slack for early cars with strike after SOP

Matt -- I have a similar situation; early '65 coupe 10148x, probably final assy. on the first day the strike was over, so it sat partially assembled for the 6 or so weeks. On top of that, there was only a few weeks vacation after the '64 EOP (end-of-production) and '65 SOP, so you have to add that period for the parts that were in the pipeline before the model year changeover.

My S-280 body had it's trim tag installed D6 (Nov 6th) yet the trailing arm bearing supports are dated D_9_4 and E_25_4; the earlier one almost 7 months before production. Most other dates are mid-September. I realize these items are not (yet) judged, but I present it as an example.

Mid to late production cars of any C2 year have an easier job of meeting the 6-month window.

Is yours also an S-body ?

Re: Least slack for early cars with strike after S

Hi Wayne. Small world, I am the guy you almost bought some tires from in Muncie. Good to hear from you again. Wow our cars are really close together. My body is S316 and my build date is D9. I guess from Bill's response the the 6 month rule would still apply since they have already accounted for delays and such. It seams I have a carb that is too early for my car since they will count October. Real bummer, because I have got big bucks in it. I guess I will have to look for another. Mine has never been on the car and has had no fuel in it so I should be able to get my money back out of it.

C2 -Any strikes longer than the Oct 64 ?

It seems that a whole month long strike is more than just a normal delay. Were there any strikes that lasted longer for the C2 generation? I think I remember a long strike in the early 70's. Would cars built during that strike have a 6 month rule? This interests me. Thanks for the response Bill, I like learning from all members--especially longtime members who have "been there done that"

Re: C2 -Any strikes longer than the Oct 64 ?

Not in the C2 era--but fall of 1970 (71 model year) they were on strike from September 20 and began working again on November 24th. I've been helping on a November 25th body-date car--VERY interesting dating--June, July, and August components on a late November car.
