    C3 1968 427/390 Fan Shroud

I have a 1968 BB I ordered a Fan shroud from Sermersheim Plastics. When I received it I put it away until I had set the engine in the car. After putting in the radiator. I attached the Shroud to the Radiator support. It fit OK but a little tight on the left side put all was going fine. Then I tried to attach the shroud to the top bracket and to my suprise the shroud was 1 inch lower and 5/8 inch to the left of the bracket mounting hole. I can't raise the shroud without cutting it because it is tight under the upper radiator out let and I can't move it to the right because it is all ready to tight. I reviewed the Assembly manual page H351 UPC L36-A13 and it reflects an opening of 19 inches by 19 inches. I measured the shroud and behold it measures 19 inches wide but only 18 inches top to bottom. I think it is because of the Frt shroud upper section being attached to the left and right Shroud parts incorectly.

Even after all this I still tried to see if the fan would fit without attaching it to the top bracket. Well guess what the shroud would not let it fit. That 1 inch problem again. I point all this out for those who would say that I have the wrong Radiator and/or Radiator support.

Any body have any similar problems and/or have any ideas on how to fix it. I spoke to Jim Sermersheim and all he could say was it is the fault of an incorrect Radiator support. He did say that if it didn't work that he would take it back, which I felt was very nice of him, but I still need a shroud. I do have another one (not in very good shape) and it is on my 327/350 w/air and it fits just fine.

Help Jay I could send any of you pictures of the fit if you would like.

    Jay------

The fan shroud on your 1969 L-79 with C-60 should be dimensionally the same as the shroud required for the 1966 big block. So, measure the dimension on the L-79 shroud you have. If it differs from the one you got from Semmersheim's, then the problem is the shroud you got and not the radiator suppport. Let us know how the measurement comes out.

      Correction

That should be 1968 L-79 in the first sentence and NOT 1969 L-79. There were, of course, no 1969 L-79's.

Joe: That is the point I was trying to make. I knew that the small block w/air used the same Shroud as the BB. I did measure my orginal shroud (and by the way the numbers on the Shroud L & R are 3935571-2 and the shroud-frt (upper) is 3935569) it measures 19 inches by 19 inches. Big suprise right.

Now what? Any ideas? I thought about trying to break the weld on the upper shroud and moving it up, which would solve the problems but I don't want to destroy it. You know what they cost?
