    C2 Battery Replacement

I'm getting ready to replace the battery in my 66 roadster with a poly top repro battery from Restoration Battery. Car has no AC or other power functions just standard base engine car. Is there a need to remove the surge tank or can it just be unfastened from the fender and swung out of way? How do you hold it out of the way? Any need to drain radiator? Any other tips would be appreciated.

    Regards,

    Hello Dave,

There is no need to drain the radiator or remove the surge tank, just do as you said, unfasten it and have a helper hold it out of your way when you remove the old battery and install the new one. If this repro battery has caps with vents, be sure to cover them as you will most likely have to turn the battery almost on end to clear the heater hoses while guiding it down into place. I've heard people actually placing the battery in a plastic bag when installing it to contain any battery acid that may leak out of the caps vents while installing it. If you do this, just tear the plastic out from under the battery when you have it in place. I've replaced batteries in my '64 a few times and have always done it by myself, but a helper is a good to have around.
