John - Something isn't adding up here. Either the socket or the courtesy light has been distorted. I just checked the courtesy light on my 67 harness and the i.d. of the socket is nominally 5/8" dia as is the o.d. of the base of GE 90 bulb that was in it. Is the Auto Zone #90 bulb base larger than 5/8"? Pete

Re: Courtesy lamp for 62 is #90
Hi Pete
Both the #90 bulbs from Auto Zone and from the lectric Limited are for the 1962 courtesy light according to there books.Like I said, the base fits fine. Just the glass bulbs are both larger than the original I replaced. And I had to grind open the hole alittle bigger.

Re: Courtesy lamp for 62 is #90
Are you sure you have the right courtesy housing? Is there a similar part used by GM that could have been stuck in there by someone else. I seem to run into issues like this all the time on my 62 because I think someone a long time ago had a parts vette or some access to 63/64 corvette parts. My license plate lamp housing is out of a 63 - 67 and I am still trying to figure out what a correct 62 part looks like.- Top

Re: Courtesy lamp for 62 is #90
Hi Chris
As far as I know, the courtesy light housing is correct. When I bought this car, it was a total basket case and all parts were in boxes. According to corvette central book, the light housings are the same for 58-62.Does 63-67 take the same housing and use a different bulb? If they are the same and take a different size bulb, then it's possible I got stuck with the wrong housing. But it looks identical to the 58-62 in the book.It would be nice to see someone take out there housing, go to Auto Zone or other part store and get a #90 bulb and try to put it through the hole in the housing. Then they would see what i'm talking about.I posted this answer in case someone else needs to replace there bulb and is having the same problem.Since I opened up the hole in my housing, the #90 fits and thats how i'll leave it.
