Hypocrits - If they were so concerned about getting all the culprits, they would also be going after Pratt & Whitney, GE (for aircraft engines), Briggs & Stratton, Tecumseh, Honda (again), Kohler (small engines), Cummins, Caterpiller, International (heavy truck diesels), every power plant company, every powerplant construction company, every Brazilian in the rain forest chopping down trees and burning the land to create a farm, every person in the US who dares to use energy for electrical or heating purposes...... and why not then sue the sun for producring the nasty sunspots that also contribute to global warming.

Idiots. I see all this gloom and doom about what may happen with global warming, all these numbers being discussed about what it would take to prevent, and not a SINGLE analysis of the cost required to cope with any such eventuality. Why can't people think?

I just hate it that my tax dollars are funding this ridiculous lunacy, but I've figured out a way to nearly stop paying income tax to California.

            Mike--
Not exactly sure what you meant by that shot--but as one who has been a pastor for 33 years, I can assure you that I pay the same income tax that everyone else does, and because the IRS classifies me as self-employed (which is interesting, because I have 7500 members, most of whom think that they are my boss) I pay all my own social-security. I'm not sure what your input has to do with the Corvette technical questions. (And of course, my response has nothing to do with that either)

Perhaps Duke does not live in California or is moving out! Or no longer has an income.

Gawd, I luv California!!! All this gloom and doom from a state that builds structures on earthquake fault lines with the USGS telling them everyday that the "Big One" is overdue. I just love comedy!!!!

It takes the form of annual gift annuities to the three universities that granted me degrees. So I get to offload the risk and portfolio management tasks over the next 10 to 15 years in return for a (pretty much guaranteed and virtually risk free) lifetime income and big annual tax deduction that applies to both state and federal taxes.

You can deduct charitable gifts to qualified educational institutions up to 50 percent of your AGI, and any excess can be carried forward for three years. At my present age about one-third of the GA value is tax deductible, and that increases with age. Also, charitable gifts are not a "tax preference" item, so it doesn't trip you into the AMT trap.

If clean out my portfolio, I can give them part of my house every year!

They get it all anyway, when I'm gone, but GAs allow me to "beat the system" while I'm still here. I'm more than happy to pay my fair share for national defense and security and reasonable state and local services, but so much of our taxes go to fund special interests that I get no benefit from. I'm just fed up.

It helps to be both a Corvette engine system engineer (had to say that so it fits into the "Corvette technical discussion" guidelines )and a financial/tax analyst.

If you have no heirs, GAs are a great estate plan foundation.

I hope you don't live is Seattle!

Someday between the next instant and a few hundred years from now, the Cascadia subduction zone is going to slip along its entire length producing a magnitude 9.X earthquake in the Pacific Northwest with the combined power of several billion vintage big block Corvettes. I won't even count the contribution of small blocks because there will probably only be a handful left by the time it happens.

The last one occurred in 1703, before any Europeans were there, but sediments and Indian folklore document the calamity along with a documented tidal wave in Japan that pegs the exact date.

                        Duke,

For safety's sake, up here in Seattle we are going to spend billions to tear down our viaduct and put in a tunnel next to the Puget Sound. Don't let anybody tell you that we aren't smart folk up this way.

p.s. Sorry that this post about GM being sued has turned into a ruckus.

Do You Mean Conservatives Favor Pollution?

I don't know anything about this lawsuit, so I can't contribute anything useful. One thing bothers me though. When did "liberal" become a dirty word? Was I out that day? If you're not a liberal, does that mean you're a conservative? I thought conservatives were against foreign wars and deficit spending.
