Chris,
This may be asking a lot, but there seems to be a major blockade that needs to be broken. Would you mind placing a cylinder head on that block and posting another picture of the pad?

If that's a Flint Passenger plant VIN derivitive, the car was built about 9 days after the engine was assembled. If it's a rebuilder's code, does it mean Fred had rebuilt nearly his 160 thousandth motor?

You may have a good point. On second look, it seems possible that these characters may indeed be assy line. A pic with the cyl head installed will definitely show if there was enough room for this group of characters.
