    I think that is what is got everyone upset.

    Can you look at that picture and see broach marks? I doubt you will see them in person either. However, you know, he knows, and probably a lot of others know that engine is orignal.

    But the rule doesn't say that. It says to check for presence of broach marks.

    So the rule isn't about originality, it is about appearance.

    You are totally correct and to ask a judge to say he sees broach marks when the pad is smooth as a baby's a-- is not fair. If you don't like the rule work on changing the wording to make your pad get full credit. To lie about it on judging sheet you might need to start doing the same on every line on the judging sheet.
