69 rally wheel dates

Just wondering if a rally wheel for a 69 corvette built in late 68 or very early 69 should have a K-1-9 code or a K-1-8 code? Just trying to figure out what range of date codes I should be looking for for my Jan 31/69 built car.

My 1970 may give you a hint, but in my case there was the production break for the model year change over -- Roughly Dec 19, 1969 to January 4, 1970. For your situation the Corvette plant seems to have produced no Corvettes between Dec. 21, 1968 and Dec 25, 1968 -- a much shorter time than a year later.

My 1970 has a body build date of A29 (January 29, 1970). All 5 wheel rims are stamped: K = Kelsey-Hayes; 1 = plant; 9 = 1969;

12 = December; 22 = 22nd; AZ

If they have K-1-69 they need a Janurary = 1 - xx by the valve stem as they must be before your build date. If they have K-1-68 they could be 8-12 for the month then the day of the month. Make the spare the best date like K-1-68 12-x as two months or less is seen most often.

Thanks for the help guys. I was a little confused as to what was an acceptable date code but now I see that the date stamping was the actual date it was made and not the intended production model year. So I guess a [K-1-8 xx (hole) xx AZ] is acceptable as well as a Jan 1st to mid Jan K-1-9 wheel.

Lyle I was under the impression that two digit year codes didn't start until the early eighties which was after the wheels were no longer used in production? Just trying to get all my ducks in a row on this date thing so that I'll know the correct wheel when/if I find one.

Would either of you guys(or anyone for that mater) have a good pic of the "welded BB" and where it lives on the rim so that I can make sure I end up with a 69 and not a 79 rally.

The welded BB is on the outer most ring. The year is one digit but the date can be two for Oct.to Dec. and two for the 10th to the 31st.

I may have found a rim...

It has the TRA stamp but is dated [K-1-9-1 VALVE STEM 28 AZ]. This is too late for a car built built Jan 31/69 right? I can't see it likely that it could get from the wheel plant then mated to the tire and installed on a car in three days but maybe it's possible.

What do you think?

You are right that rim is too close to your build date.
