    Vin tag attachment method

    G0t a question regarding the VIN tag on a 64 rdstr.There are grind marks behind where it is spotwelded.I have seen this on other cars ,say listed on ebay and when asked, the seller says the vin is intact.question is, was the area ground (hopefully at the factory)to accept the spotweld or has the VIN been tampered with....

    Yes, ground to remove paint prior to spot weld

    Or that zinc chromate yellow-greenish primer. At SOP 1965 model year, they used pop rivets (plain circular head up to at least VIN 9180) then rosette shaped pop rivets thru 1967.

        I happened to drive my '65 to work today. It's number 9532 and has round rivets, I purchased from the original owner in July of 2006.
