I have the engine out of my 66 and am researching how to detail the engine compartment. I am using for reference, the NCRS Technical Information Manual and Judging Guide and also Vette Vues Fact Book by Dobbins. I am confused regarding the terms "semi-flat" and "semi-gloss". Are they the same thing? The NCRS guide seems to suggest that the firewall and fenders are painted semi-gloss. Also, the frame and underside of hood are semi-gloss. Dobbins says they are semi-flat black. Are they the same thing?
Black out the compartment using JOHN DEERE Blitz Black and you'll be fine. Semi-gloss and semi-flat could be considered the same. Each paint manu has different levels of glossiness.
Typically the frame parts are a little "glossy" and the upper "A" arms are more glossy all compared with the fenders and firewall.
