    62 painting process question.

Per the JGM the gas door, vent tubes, vent clip and gas filler tube grommet (~3" diameter) have overspray on them but the filler tube did not. So the plant completely installed and adjusted the filler door before paint. Makes sense.

It also means that the fuel tank was not installed in the car.

My question is the tank cover itself. In my car the tank hold is unpainted as is the rear perimeter (~1" band) where the cover sits. But the front perimeter lip is painted body color (on my car).

It looks to me like the cover was sitting in the hold during plant paint and then removed from the car to install the tank.

Is the above correct and did my front lip get painted during a previous "restoration" make sense? I assume the cover fasteners should also not be painted?

    Chris--
You're pretty good! Wouldn't argue with any of your deductions!

I still find it hard to believe that they just oversprayed the fuel filler opening with the vent hose in there. Seems like they would have either an oversprayed area with many parts partially painted and looking awful or a lot of runs trying to cover everything.
