    air pump

Thanks for the excellent answers to my questions. one more and I will get out of your hair. As you can tell by my previous posts my 74' is original except for a few key parts. The exhaust manifolds on my car are not original (from a 63') and the ones I find for sale say they fit 68' to 82' and have holes for the air tubes. My car does not have an air pump and does not look like it ever did. There is no bracket for it and no empty pulley for the belt. Was this an emissions option? Is there different manifolds that fit a 74'? Or was all of the stuff discarded by the original owner over 20 years ago? Is there a reference or place where I can see a picture of the engine compartment of a 74'. Thanks again, Corky.

    Corky----

All 1974 Corvettes originally had Air Injection Reactor(A.I.R.) pumps EXCEPT L-48 automatics with engine suffix code "CLA". Let me know what you have.

      Re: air pump

As Joe L. stated, the L-48 automatics in '74(CLA L-48s) did'nt come with smog pumps(lucky us!!!). This is one thing I have fun with the judges at shows with. You would'nt believe how many times I'm asked "Where is your smog pump". These original exhaust manifolds have the "raised circular untapped bosses" that would have been drilled out and tapped for the "smog pump" cars. If the dating is not critical to you and you would like to make your car "more original" 1975 and 1976 exhaust manifolds also were very, very similar if not identical, because their injected smog pump air traveled through a tube(pipe) over the passenger valve cover down to just below the heat riser where the tube connected with the right front exhaust pipe(these years had NO A.I.R."bag pipe" tubes). Even though the '73-'79 part numbers were the same(#3932461 both left and right sides) there were minor changes/configurations year to year. Paul Borowski #26140 Massillon, Ohio

        Re: air pump

Hey Joe and Paul, thanks, my car is a L48 with a CLA designation. If I understand correctly, I need to find that part number, but manifolds that where never drilled. Or is it a different part number? Also, different sources sell L-48 emblems for the hood. Did any L-48's come stock with hood emblems? Thanks again, you guys re a big help. Corky

          Re: air pump

Your car should have exhaust manifolds with casting number 3932461 without A.I.R. fittings.

No L-48 equipped Corvettes were factory-fitted with "L-48" hood emblems. Nor was any other year.

            Re: air pump

Corky, those manifolds do carry that same part number, #3932461,'73 through '79 left and right side. They were configured differently for each engine/year/emission application even though they carried the same part number. If you want the absolute right, correct, original ones for your car, you will have to know this and also to whom your dealing with. Give them a date or estimate one that your looking for. The '75s and '76s are virtually the same, but they will be dated so. Make sure they know exactly what you are looking for. Many(some) may not even have a clue, then there are those people(many that sell in the NCRS Driveline, or Hemming's) that will know what you need. Going to Corvettes@Carlisle, Bloomington, and Chevy Vettefest I see many of these correct '74 CLA ones for sale. Anywhere from about $35.00 to $75.00 apiece. They are not as plentiful as the others with the tapped holes, but they are out there. As for the L-48 emblem on the hood, NO. That emblem is'nt even made or was ever made by GM. It is aftermarket, not reproduction. The '74 L-82s never had their hood emblems either, even though some dispute it. In the 1975 L-82 Survey that I did and still am doing, 4 out of 37 cars did'nt have the emblem. Also the earliest 1975 L-82 I've documented was'nt built until 1st week of March, 1975.
