Doing the same with my 64. Have you found any reference to specifictions of how much space there sould be between the shifter levers in the main body, pn 3857393. The part which the shifter is bolted to. I now have .036 total spacing.

I'm not at that point yet; I'm just getting all the parts/supplies ready for when I take the shifter apart.

I have used moly chassis lube, the same thing I used for the ball joints and tie rod ends. It has been a long time since I cleaned and relubricated my 68's 4-speed shifter and it still shifts easily after all these years. I will use it again when I clean it.
