69 Amp Gauge

My Amp Gauge reads on the line between the 0 and -40 amps when my headlights are turned on. Is this normal, or is my Alt. going south?

With the headlights on your amp gauge might be expected to read a needle width, or so, on the discharge (negative) side of "0". If your gauge is reading at the hash mark between "0" and "-40", I would say that you have some sort of a problem. An alternator output test would be a good place to start looking.
