    Re: 71 LT1 smog

    Hello Vincent,
All the 1970, 1971 and 1972 LT-1's came with smog systems.
Do you have a copy of the 1970-1972 judging manual?
    Regards,
    Drew Papsun

      Not quite true...

In '71, ALL engine configurations were equipped with CEC (Combined Emissions Control system, the carb idle solenoid and its relays), and the VRS (Vapor Recovery System, charcoal cannister). But, the AIR (Air Injection Reactor, smog pump) was NOT installed on base engine SB cars nor on LS5 BB engines...

        Hello Jack,
You are correct for the base and big block. Vincent asked about his 1971 LT-1 engine in his Corvette did came smog system.

          Re: Not quite true...

There's no such thing as a "smog system". The Air Injection Reactor (AIR) system an other systems that Jack referred to are "emission control systems".

"Smog" is the result of photochemical reaction of emissions with sunlight in the atmophere.

              Duke-----

To be even more correct, AIR is an EXHAUST emissions control system. There are, of course, other emissions control systems on the car. The PCV system is a CRANKCASE emissions control system. EEC is a FUEL VAPOR emissions control system.
