K66 early / late magnet design

TI distr on left is from a '71 LT-1 (1112038_0J3), and the other is a 1111267_(9B14). Notice the one on the left has a "lip" or channel that moulds half around one of the 3 mounting screws that holds the top 8-tooth ring to it's base. The other doesn't, and neither do any of my other TI distrib's dating back to 1964. Also, I have a couple of other NOS in-the-boxes stationary pole pieces (1964276 -- the GM parts catalogs say for '64-65 w/F.I, but I can't tell the difference) and these also have the "lip" but they are probably later SERVICE units.

So the above might imply that the magnet design change (for production units) occured somewhere between Feb 1969 and Sept 1970. If anyone has their distrib between these dates handy, would appreciate knowing the magnet configuration.

Wayne, I have a March 69 car with the "lips" but it may be a service type. Don't know for sure.

Thanks, all -- I should mention the wires, too

I believe that all factory originals (not sure on '72 ZR-1's) had two white leads, molded together (ie. siamesed) with a faint green tracer stripe on one of the wires.

If there are two distinct (separate) wires, one with white plastic insulation and the other with a lime green insulation, then I think these pole pieces are of later 1970's design, used for SERVICE.

So I'm reading your magnet responses as that factory configuration changed sometime late calendar 1968 to early months of 1969.

            Thanks
