    Re: Head lamp washers

There really isn't a known 'cutoff' point. The 1970, 5-port pump, was used up while remaining on-hand inventory existed. Current JG advice is 5-port pumps were used as late as VIN 12,605, (Feb, 71). Same goes for the hose assys. My late April build '71 still has reminants of the HL washer lines (lines cut short to prevent installation confusion) in its vac line bundle.

But, since the wiper motor & washer pump were purchased as a complete assy, those with 5-port pumps ought to bear the 1970 PN on the motor housing (5044758) instead of the 1971, 3-port pump number (5044780).

If you have the 5 port pump I would say your car had factory head lamp washers. Also your pump connection should be a twin spade plug as 71 only used top ignition shield cover.1970 up to about June used a full box ignition cover and the pump has 2 barrel connections to give clearence for full box ignition cover. The head light bezels should be metal with 1 nozzel on the vertical and one one bottom horizontal. Early 70 had both nozzels on the vertical.

Harold, et.al. The five port pump was used for several month AFTER usage of headlamp washers CEASED. See Jack's post. It is not unusal to pumps and or cut off hoses. You will occassionally see headlamp bezels with the holes for the washers. All on original unmolested original cars.

                harold,

Interesting comment about the location of the washer squirter holes on the bezels. Researched this a few years back. I thought the first design had the holes in the vertical and horizontal position. Anyone removing the bezel has a heck of a time clearing the squirters tube from the headlight opening. If I remember the squirter had to be removed first. Bad design and location

The design with both squirters vertical, present no interference during the bezel removal. Leeds me to believe this design corrected the problem.

                Or maybe I'm completely wrong......

Didn't the alarm system have a piggy back plug that plugged into wiper motor?

My 71 LS5 SN 1632, early Sept 70 build, has a three port pump and the hoses for the washers are tucked behind the pump. I have both top and bottom headlight washers on the bezels. BTW the wiper motor is P/N 5044758 with a date code of 183 0 2 A. Which is, to the best of my knowlege, original to the car.
