This may have been discussed but in the 68 judging manual it mentions that the steering box should have an aluminum cover. I seem to recall my car having a cast iron cover. In my frequent visits to the junk yards over the years (none recently), I recall later cars having the aluminum covers?? I bet that is a mistake. Terry

Re: 68 steering box.....
Terry-----
The JG will need to be revised to be more clear on this point in future editions. 1968 Corvettes used a steering box with a cast iron cover, just like the one used for 63-67. For 1969, the cover changed to the aluminum version described in the JG. However, very early 1969's may have used the cast iron cover, too. I do know, though, that an original owner, known-original 1969 built in October, 1968 has the aluminum cover. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Steve----
The casting number "5666723" should be seen on the cover. Also, there should be the word "CHECK" and "LUBE" with arrows pointing to cover retaining screw holes. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
