Were blocks pulled in numerical order or random. In other words, if I have a car, lets say a Jan 15th birthday, would my block date be earlier than a Jan 16th birthday but after a Jan 14th birthday?

Re: C2 Assembly Question
It is much more random than that. If you look at surveys, blocks with the same date can span several thousand serial numbers. Take a look at the survey results in Nolands book. There are several BBs with a casting date of C77. They range in serial numbers from 14620 to 17546.- Top

Re: C2 Assembly Question
Dave,
There are two engine dates to be concerned with. The first is the block casting date which is cast into the block and are raised alpha-numeric characters. Then there is the engine assembly date which is stamped into the front pad of the block and are depressed alpha-numeric characters.
Generally the block cast date is a week to a few months earlier than the car's birth date. The engine assembly date stamp is generally a few days to a few weeks before the car's birth date.
Exceptions regularly occur, never say never.
Hope this helps.

Re: C2 Assembly Question
My L-79 engine was built on July 2nd and the car was built on July 6th. It's a late '67, so I guess maybe the factory was getting ready to close down the '67 operation to gear up for the '68 run.- Top
