72 conv best way to remove antifreeze from carpet

r&r the heater core on my 72 as it leaked (non a/c)---purchased a new core and had the harrison end plates put on the new core as the replacement pipes are not configured to fit the blower housing---two things i found out while doing this---there are 2 inboard nuts top and bottom that are behind the blower housing that hold the core housing to the body---these are not shown in the aim---the next thing i found was that i could remove the heater core from the car through the firewall by shifting the core housing around to remove the clips, this will save about 1 to 2 hours of labor since you do not need to remove the radio an associated gear to get the housing out---well now to my question--the carpet is in excellent condition and short of removing it, is there a good suggestion on cleaning the antifreeze out of it---thanks to all respones

    Phil,
Within the last 3-4 weeks on this board there was a significant thread about that very question. Try the archives, and I think we'll help you there.
    Good luck!

Two options to flush the coolant from the carpet. You have plastic plug in the floor that can be removed to drain flush water through the carpet/insulation or just remove the carpet and insulation and flush the coolant and have the advantage of it all drying with assistance from the sun.

        Dilution-the solution to pollution...

I've gotten 'em clean by removing the passenger seat, pouring a 2-gal bucket of soap + water onto the cockpit floor, scrubbing gently and extracting with a wet/dry shop vac. Then, follow with 3-6 more exchanges of rinse water. Repeat as necessary until the carpet doesn't feel 'slippery' to hand touch. When done, set 'er out in direct sun and let air dry for a full day.

I like your method and the one day to dry in Colorado. Here in Ohio that time to dry may take a week to get a couple days of sun to help out.

Get some newapapers to help dry

Go down to your local C-store and ask them to save the unsold news papers for you. Lay a layer of paper on your clean but wet carpet, the paper will soak up the water, keep changing the paper, this helps to dry the carpet much quicker. Phil 8083
