sealing vac lines on a c3

I am checking and replacing vac line in my to be c3 daily driver. I have noticed on some conection there seems to be a substance maybe for sealing. Is there something to put on fittings to help avoid leaks.

I would clean male posts. If replacing hoses that should do it. If using old hose I might use a sealer as in white grease to seal the old hose.

What about pure silicon as a sealer,

Silicone isn't a good idea - will allow the hoses to slip off the nipples. The plant used "rose water" (50-50 mix of alcohol/water) to ease assembly of rubber hoses to plastic nipples - it evaporated and left no residue.

Tip...

take a razor blade and cut the hose a 'tad' shorter to eliminate any that's fatigued due to years of expansion at connection points...
