    1974 Muffler Black Out

I'm replacing the mufflers on my '74 with stock replacements. The 73-74 TIM&JG states that "the mufflers are painted with black-out spray to even their appearance from the rear. This is often carelessly and incompletely applied."

Was the spray intended to only be applied to the rear of the muffler or were all visable areas (rear, bottom and outboard side) intended to be sprayed?

    Thanks, Bill

Intention of the black out was a cosmetic thing...keep the on-lookers eyes from being drawn away from the sleek body lines of the car by 'glints' of bright metal reflected from the undercarriage area. Hence, the JG's reference to often being applied sloppily and incompletely.
