I need information on what succeeded the AC Spark Plug Division in Flint, with particular emphasis on their speedometer shop. Is this still part of GM, another company or ?? Anyone have any names of former employees of the speedometer part of AC, especially back in the 50's or 60's? Respond here, e-mail, FAX (602)547-2253 or call (602)938-5942. Thanks.

Re: AC Spark Plug Division
The AC Spark Plug Division is now part of the Energy and Engine Management Division of GM's DELPHI parts manufacturing operation. DELPHI, which is a corporate name for the operation formed by the amalgamation of DELco, Packard Electric, Harrison Radiator, and Inland-Fisher-Guide, includes AC Spark Plug, Saginaw Gear and other GM entities of yore.
As far as I know, the speedometer operation has not been sold or "spun-off" as have other parts of DELPHI (Guide Lamps, for example). I believe that it is still housed at the huge former AC plant in Flint. As a matter of fact, if I recall correctly, speedometers produced at this plant were among the components the loss of which caused the near shut-down of the entire GM assembly operation this past summer when Flint went on strike.
Incidentally, there is a strong possibility that DELPHI will be "spun-off" from GM in an effort to increase its non-GM parts business. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: AC Spark Plug Division
Loren, I believe that within the switching between divisions that occurred with the previously mentioned "Delphi" entity, the instrument operation of AC was switched over to be a unit of Delco Electronics, under the theory that most speedo's now are digital. Delco Electronics is now "Delphi-Delco Electronics. I'd try to call Flint information, looking for a Delco Electronics or Delphi-Delco Electronics in flint & call for Public Relations. They may be able to help with your request. I believe the facility is/was located on Dort Highway in flint.Bill Clupper #618- Top
