    66 Fan Clutch

Discovered over the weekend that my original fan clutch is going on me and will need to be rebuilt. I read in the archives that Fred Oliva is the man for that service. But, I would like to get a good service replacement to use in the meantime and wanted to know if the GM 3916141 is correct for my car (327/300 no ac)? Also, is Paragon's fan clutch equivalent (price, appearance, function, etc.)? Or, does anyone have another vendor or suggestion.

    Thanks in advance,
    Rob

BTW - Had a great time at the SCC/NCRS meet in Calabasas this past weekend. Great people and great cars.

    Re: 66 Fan Clutch

The 3916141 is very close in appearance to the original Eaton style clutch. I have used one on my 67 327/300 with no problems.

I'm not sure, but I think the clutch that Paragon sells is the 3916141. You might want to check pricing at gmpartsdirect.com.

      Rob,

Gmpartsdirects.com wants $156.07 inc. their gouging-level $28 S&H charge for the 3916141 fan clutch. These fan clutch are for sale all the time on e-bay and sometimes sell for around $110-120 and sometimes less. Paragon says the one they sell is the same 3916141 for $125 + S&H. I think you'll be able to find a new one for less on e-bay.

          66 Fan Clutch

          Ken,

Was your total cost after shipping & handling less than $100? If so, I'm getting one. And is the fan clutch the exact same as the GM part?

$75 plus shipping. It is the exact same one.

Specialty Parts only deals with wholesale

                Ken,

I called Julie and she only deals with wholesale. It sounded too good to be true.

Ken, do you have another e-mail address?

I tried to e-mail you off-line, but the message bounced. Do you have another address I can try? My e-mail address is beaupre@rrdmail.stanford.edu.

                  Thanks,

                  Gary

Just going though the same thing with my 67 300hp. Want to get one on the car while I get the original rebuilt.

Found out the NAPA one-size-fits-all doesn't work. The distance from the flange to the fan surface is about an inch shorter than original.

I called my local friendly Chevrolet dealer and they said 3916141 is $215 list price. Ouch!

There is a guy on eBay selling new 3916141 for $143 plus $12.50 shipping. He ALSO has (on eBay) an Eaton unit that he says is the exact same fan clutch but without the GM box for $95 plus the same shipping charge. Ebay #160036658185.

Any new news on the $75 fan clutch? Wonder if they would give the discount price to NCRS members? Might be worth a try? :-)

                      John

I have an unused GM 3916141 clutch as a spare among my bench stuff. It looks the same as the eBay #160036658185 unit referenced in your post, right down to the markings. I bought mine from GM Parts Direct a few years ago when they were about $100. Note that the eBay seller "thepartsladi" used to have a "gmpartsdirect" phrase in her handle from Nov 05 until last month.

                        John,

NAPA does have a useable part for you, they just don't know it.

I'll spare you the story of my struggle to get a part that works. Or even matches the part number on the carton.

Instead of using the application listing, a look-up on the '63-'67 GM service part number, 3824560, will yield instead NAPA # 273325. This part has a dimension for the hub to fan mounting surface of 1.75". Matched up with my '63 and has kept me cool while Mr. Oliva works on the original.

With any type of discount it is still a good price.

Some of the detail didn't appear on that link.

The price I see listed is $44.95.
