    motor pad

Hi Guys, This is my 67 427/400 pad. This is off my 67 coupe. It has been judged original 2X. One judge said no. It looks right to me but what is your opinions?? It has the broach lines & pits that should be. Don

    Don,
Looks good to me but, hey, I'm no expert. Certainly others will post their opinions.

Hey Don, the lower numbers on the pad are very close to the head it had to be stamp with the heads off, my 2 cents Danny

i'm not an expert but your pad looks just like mine, the surface anyways......i agree though, there is NO way that could have been stamped with the head on........its under the plug......dont think it was possible....???

That part of the number was done with the heads off. See recent post from John Hinckley

          Thanks

'66-up BB's were stamped before the heads went on; SB's were stamped after the heads went on.

Re: Don; why did one judge say no?

Hi Gary, 1. He said the date #s were to high up near heads. BUT these 3s are stamped w/o heads on.

                2. He said there was a 7 under vin. #. BUT enlarged it is not a 7 or any # at all. Just 2 lines converging.

This pad was judged orginal 6 months before by same chapter judge??? Don

                  Don,

What ever happened to the guideline of erring on the side of the owner that the Judging Chairmen profess in my Northern California Chapter and they tell this to all judges before every chapter meet?

I'm no stamp pad expert by any means, but yours looks well within the bounds of reasonable to me. Where is this judging taking us.

                  Gary

John I have 2 65 bbs and both are stamped low or away from the head . Were 65 BBs stamped with the heads on ? If so why the change and when ? Bill

                      Re: motor pad

I don't have the detail on exactly when the change took place (Al Grenning probably does), but initial production '65 BB's were stamped at the inboard end of the pad (like a SB) with the heads on, but the car assembly plant couldn't stamp the VIN derivative on the outboard end of the pad due to interference between the big plug in the front of the head and their gang holder, keeping it at an angle instead of perpendicular to the pad surface. For that reason, the engine plant stamp was moved to the outboard end of the pad, and stamped before the heads went on, so the assembly plant had a straight shot at the inboard end of the pad to stamp the VIN derivative.
