Re: motor pad
Don,
Looks good to me but, hey, I'm no expert. Certainly others will post their opinions.

Re: Don; why did one judge say no?
Hi Gary, 1. He said the date #s were to high up near heads. BUT these 3s are stamped w/o heads on.
2. He said there was a 7 under vin. #. BUT enlarged it is not a 7 or any # at all. Just 2 lines converging.
This pad was judged orginal 6 months before by same chapter judge??? Don- Top

Don; why did one judge say no?
Don,
What ever happened to the guideline of erring on the side of the owner that the Judging Chairmen profess in my Northern California Chapter and they tell this to all judges before every chapter meet?
I'm no stamp pad expert by any means, but yours looks well within the bounds of reasonable to me. Where is this judging taking us.

Re: motor pad
I don't have the detail on exactly when the change took place (Al Grenning probably does), but initial production '65 BB's were stamped at the inboard end of the pad (like a SB) with the heads on, but the car assembly plant couldn't stamp the VIN derivative on the outboard end of the pad due to interference between the big plug in the front of the head and their gang holder, keeping it at an angle instead of perpendicular to the pad surface. For that reason, the engine plant stamp was moved to the outboard end of the pad, and stamped before the heads went on, so the assembly plant had a straight shot at the inboard end of the pad to stamp the VIN derivative.- Top
