C2 Fuel Tank Anti Squeak Pads FYI

Measured the original anti squeak pads from the fuel tank area
They are; 1.5" wide and 0.100" thick, lenght unknown since they broke.

Did a search of past posts and did not find this info and since the repro's are 2.06" wide by .035 thick just felt others may want the above information. Note, information from Mar 64 car.

Easy to make your own from roofing tar paper, or felt. Should be able to get the thickness you want by comparing the different weights.

Agree with Papa Smurf. Pads are probably close to 30 mil building felt in thickness. Check local commercial construction sites or roofing companies for some scraps. Or, let me know their length and I'll trim some off two roll ends and send them to you but you'll have to do the fine t******* for the exact size.

The purpose of my posting in part was to show that the repro thickness in inches is about 30 mil, that is much too thin for a Mar 64 car. As posted its .1".
Using multi felt strips cut to correct width until the .1" is achieved worked just fine for me.

Perhaps latter years had a thinner felt, however it appears in 64 it was much fatter. Please not all the weasel wording - I'm just reporting what was on a Mar 64 car FYI.

          Late '65 -- 0.11"thk, 33_7/8"lg by 1.5" wide

So this agrees with your '64, Alan. Mine is an original unmolested tank (Or until I was the first to take it out). The thickness measured with dial caliper at several locations. Interesting in that the long piece on the front/bottom of the tank was not centered, but offset by about 3/4" (careless install).

Mike McCagh did a RESTORER article back in winter 1987 calls for 2" wide x 33_3/4" lg, based on two original '67's and Long Island repro. Also quotes 3/32" thk (0.094").
