I know the B-key will operate the glove box and spare tire lock cylinders and the A-key should not be able to be inserted into either of these cylinders. I lost my original spare tire lock on my 67 and had a replacement lock reworked to function with my original B-key, however, now the A-key will insert into the replacement spare tire lock cylinder but will not operate. Does anyone know whether this would be considered a failure in Performance Verification?

Re: Performance verification- C2-Spare Tire Lock
Joseph - It's my understanding that if it doesn't work like it did when it left the factory, it will be considered a failure. I also know that the keyway aspect, i.e. that the spare tire lock has the specific keyway for the key it would have come from the factory with and will not accept other keyway keys, is to be checked. Re: Performance verification- C2-Spare Tire Lock
That 'test' (checking keyway encoding to detect a lock conversion to 'universal' keyway) is NOT addressed in the current mid-year PV Manual. That makes it a judge's call...
It IS addressed in the early Shark PV Manuals and constitutes an automatic failure of the PV test. You should contact the National Team Leader for clarification here. All mid-year cars EXCEPT 1967 used the old key/lock system that was not keyway encoded with 1967 being the first year of the new lock system with keyway encoding.- Top
