    1972 LT-1 windshield washer system

I am not able to get a water spray out of the nozzles located on the wipers. The pump is sucking from the reservoir. I can blow water through the system and water does come out of the wiper nozzles, but not like it should.

I recently put a replacement windshield washer kit on and the system worked. 2 months later I have the beforementioned problem.

    Any suggestions.

Assuming the pump is like the original pump, there are little round rubber flapper valves inside the pump body. It sounds like the suction valves are not sealing tightly which allows flow leakage back to the reservoir.

Your pump works like this: When the piston moves away from the valves, the suction valves open drawing flow into the pumping chamber from the reservoir. Then when the piston moves back toward the valves, the suction valves are supposed to seal tightly, forcing the fluid to be pumped out through the discharge valves and to the wiper arms.

Check the integrity of the suction line to and inside the fluid reservoir. Any leak in this line -- even a pin hole -- will prevent fluid being drawn into the pump.
