C1: Ouch. Where to get new windshield?

Nice big rock came at me on the freeway today. Put a huge crack in the windshield. I don't think it's repairable. Any suggestions on the best place to buy a replacement?

    Thanks.

    -Dave

p.s. I would post a picture, but it's too painful.

      Harry,

All C1 cars used the same windsield from 53-62.

Dave, I think the place I got my glass was something like Classic Auto Glass.
Their price was pretty good. You used to be able to go to Plinkton, who bought out LOF, and order a date-coded windshield direct from them. I tried to order one from them a couple of years ago, and it seems as though they have gotten out of that business.

Give OEM glass a call, 800.283.2122. They have been doing date coded glass for over 25 years

John, I read the post too quick, I overlooked the C1 at the front end.

Oh well, tough to get bad eyes......

Dave....Just be sure to get date coded.......the reason is that the windshield corner is where even the novice looks for authenticity!!! Good Luck.

Call your insurance company. This is covered. Call them before you have the work done. They'll want you to bring it to one of their places. You don't want to do that. They'll understand. One of the few times in this hobby you can get some money back.

$1000 deductible, but thanks for the suggestion.

Safeco, 70K, full coverage, $174. In hindsight, maybe I should have had no deductible, but the odds are low that windshield would get a crack so big it can't be repaired. And I don't like to file claims anyway. I use insurance as catastrophic coverage. There are already so many ways in which the insurance companies can raise your rates. Filing a claim is just asking for trouble.

Check your policy. In many states, glass doesn't have a deductible. Safety issue. State wants to encourage people to replace faulty windshields.

Glass is under the comprehensive section of the policy. I also have a $1,000 deductible. For the savings that I realize on premiums, I can afford to replace a windshield every 18-24 months.
