Open Aluminum Car Trailer Advice Wanted

Doc, McFast has an open trailer and I think its called a Texas Rollback. It is the easiest trailer I ever loaded. Pull a pin on the neck, set the trailer brake then back the tow vehicle up. The trailer tilts, load the car, tie it down, install the pin, release the trailer brake and you're off in less than ten minutes.

You're close. It's MADE in Texas. The name is Sloan Kwik-Load.

Here is another manufacture for your consideration. I know the owner and he's a great person. He will build whatever you want. However, the trailers he builds are not all aluminum, which is reflected in thier weight.

I thought the roll back type trailers were steel, not aluminum. I do know Featherlite has several size aluminum open trailers aprox$4500.00 and up as well as Trailex for about the same money.

Texas Roll Back and Sloan Kwik-Load coexisted for a while, I think because of a partnership split. I own a Sloan Kwik-Load and really like it. It seems identical to a Texas Roll Back I saw at a show recently. I would sugest a winch as holdig on the incline with park brakes is almost impossible. Aproach angle is much less than typical hydro tilt trailers.

                Georfrey,

I would NOT BUY AN ALUMINUM OPEN TRAILER! The absolute worst open trailer I ever owned was aluminum! I purchased a top of the line Featherlite open aluminum one time. Looked great, well built and pulled terrible when empty. Bounced like a SOB when empty! Pulled fine when loaded.

I have several "friends" who also have aluminum open trailers. They all have the same complaint, they bounce like a SOB when empty. Buy a good/great quality steel open trailer. Look at Imperial out of Olney Ilinois. They make LOT's of 2 or 3 car trailers that ALL the Corvette dealers pull AND they make a VERY nice 1 car open trailer. A second option is Hodges out of Paducah Kentucky. Hodges builds ramp truck car haulers with matching trailers. Hodges also manufactures a very good commercial grade open 1 car trailer.

Do not buy a cheap price/quality open trailer of any brand or construction material. The "smart" money willg et out and look for a good highline used trailer. They are out there and available. Just a little more difficult to find over buying brand new. Best part is that someone else will take the initial depreciation.

I realize that you "may" be interested in purchasing through/for your business so depreciation and other tax implications could be involved. Even "if" this is important, I would not let this effect my decision as to the purchase of a quality piece of used equipment.

                Have fun trailer shopping!

A point I forgot to add to the above post. I sold the Aluminum Featherlite 1 car open trailer exactly 27 days AFTER purchase. Was damn glad to get rid of it!

                  It bounced that bad unloaded.
