Repro Warranty Booklet and P-O-P

I see listed on ebay a repro Chevrolet warranty booklet and Protect-o-plate, which for an extra charge can also be had with all the correct information for your car. Additionally, it can also be aged to look like the ones that came with the car. As the seller says, "Nothing will give your car more value than documentation..........PERIOD!"

I think his blurb is literally encouraging use of his product to commit fraud, but then again, if I want to get maximum NCRS points, I should order up these items for judging. Of course, for Flight judging, I wouldn't have them aged, but I could do it when it came time to sell.

We are on the brink (or are actually there) of having the ability to duplicate EVERY possible identifying document or vehicle stamp to the extent that they all appear original to the vehicle, and that only a forensic scientist would have a chance of disputing.

With all due respect to the owners of legitimate cars, it is astounding to me how the big engine and rare option cars can continue the upward spiral of price when this situation exists.

not all buyers are unscrupulous!

Did anybody out there buy a repro interior? How about one of those repro batteries? The list goes on and on! NCRS members fuel this market by restoring their cars to the Nth degree.

Fraud is when a person intentionally attempts to pass off something for what it is NOT! If you own a base engine car and get repro documentation to match with the base engine status of the car, that's no different than replacing an interior, battery, alternator, etc!

On the other hand, we must all be aware that there are MANY bogus Corvettes out there! Unless I can personally prove to myself that a car is truly original, then I simply buy it as what it is - a sum of its parts and condition! I would never personally pay $300,000 for a 1967 435 HP car, but there are others out there who will - I hope they either have a lot of disposable income or don't mind being the proverbial fool who is parted from his cash.

other options too

For my cars, I have bought correct original warranty books with POP's from Impalas, etc - got a 1st design 1969 style for $75 and a 2nd design 1969 for $10 - when you consider that they're not repros and still get most of the NCRS points, I think I did pretty well on the dollars per point!

I am confused.
How can you use an Impala warranty book for a Corvette?
Weren't they embosed with the numbers puches in holes to amtch your VIN?
The books I saw in the late 60's (I'm old) had the VIN punched in holes so the book matches the car.

The warranty books were exactly the same for all 1969 Chevrolets. If the VIN number is wrong, it doesn't matter if it's a Corvette VIN or not, it's not your car's VIN - same with the protecto plate - but at least there is some VIN there and it's factory original. If you judge based on the axes for points, given about 6 points total, you may lose what, maybe one point for the Impala stuff? If you get hit for a repro warranty book and protecto plate, you'll probably lose more as then they will likely also hit you for deductions in the stampings/fonts/etc on the plate (the repro warranty books are not exactly like original).

I paid $75 for a 1967 warranty book and POP from an Impala. It is not easy to tell that it is incorrect for my car because the POP is embossed in reverse type, but a determined judge could figure it out by spending a little time on it.

However, the glove box contents are not worth many points, and many judges are satisfied just to see that there is a warranty book and POP present. The low point value for the glove box contents makes it hardly worthwhile to study the POP closely. At most, I think an incorrect POP could cost 1 point during flight judging.

Buyer beware of this vendor, he does sell lots of repop as originals.
