C2 Coupe weatherstrip

I bought a set of new C2 coupe door weatherstrips a while ago and am now finally installing them. Question though, the original pieces that I took off the car had the ends line up at the bottom of the door, approximatly in the center. These new pieces from Corvette Rubber have the ends meeting at the front of the door near the top hindge area. Did they cut these wrong? Is this typical of the repo pieces. Thanks in advance for any help.

HI Bob I have never seen orig or repo stips end there, I would check with them. Also a tip for installing them, lay the strips out and coat them with the yellow weatherstip glue where they sit on the door edge, let them dry completely, then apply it to the door edge then put them on. Phil 8063

Thanks for the reply, Phil. I was afraid that might be the answer. I didn't even think about checking that when I got them. My mistake. I figured they could cut a piece of rubber correctly. Guess not. I hope they stand by their product as it has been about a year since I bought them Thanks again for taking the time to reply.

I had problems with Corvette Rubber sending me wrong pieces. I had to call them on numerous times to have them send me the correct pieces.

Thanks for the info Jack. Hopefully they will exchange the pieces without a hassle. I'll find out tomorrow.

Is it possible that you have the weatherstrips mixed up? If they have the molded corner, then they are left/right dependent... so that the seam is on the bottom of the door

Thanks for the reply Steve. I haven't yet told the shop to reverse them but I probably should just to be sure. I'm thinking that since the doors are just mirror images of each other that the rubber will pretty much end at the same place if you moved it from side to side. That molded corner fixes the starting location on the door. Maybe I'm missing something though. They both end at the same place, forward and up near the top hindge. I wouldn't think that Corvette Rubber would have made them both wrong. They are sending out new pieces though(thanks Joe).

The molded corner should be made in such a way that the "V" fits in the groove of the door. If you think about it... the distance from the corner to under the door is about the same as from the corner to the hinge area. Going around the door front from the corner to a point under the door is a much greater distance...so if you reversed the gaskets then you'd get what you have..... thus a left and right gasket with lengths from the corner being different. When you get the new gaskets you'll notice one "leg" of the gasket from the moulded corner is longer than the other "leg". The longer "leg" goes around the front of the door.
